15 Super Space-Saving Kitchen Hacks

As someone who has rented for years, and has friends who are in the same position, I have noticed that the kitchen is often the smallest room in rented apartments. This makes sense, as beyond cooking, cleaning and preparing drinks, very little time is spent in the kitchen. However, there are a lot of applicances that live in the kitchen - such as toasters, kettles and microwaves - that take up a lot of valuable counter space. Cupboards can also quickly become crowded with pots, pans and other utensils, making the kitchen quite a chaotic place to be.

In this blog post, I will list 15 amazing, space-saving kitchen hacks that will hopefully help our customers to make their kitchens easier to navigate.

1. Fix a sturdy file holder to the door of one of your cupboards, and use it to hold things like cling film, tin foil, and grease-proof paper. These things are often an awkward shape, making them hard to slot into the cupboard. This hack solves that problem.

2. Fix small hooks to the door of one of your cupboards and hang your measuring cups from them. This not only saves space but time as well, as it means that you are no longer rummaging around your drawers for that quarter-cup measurement. In the picture above, a corkboard has been fixed to the door and hooks have been attached to it, meaning that it's also a really good space to pin memos to. However, small command hooks are also a good option.

 3. Spices often take up a lot of room in kitchen cupboards. These metallic tins, which can be purchased here in a set of twelve, are a great way of utilising the fridge as a storage space.

4. Invest in some shelving racks, such as the ones listed here, to fully utilise the space in your cupboards. With a couple of racks, stacking plates and bowls right up to the bottom of the next shelf will become a thing of the past. No more struggling to get out bigger pieces of crockery!

5. We all know how quickly the kitchen's cleaning cupboard can evolve into chaos. To combat this, install a shower curtain pole under your sink to hang spray bottles from.

6. Attach a wall-mounted magazine rack to the wall or door of one of your cupboards to hold those pesky pan lids. They'll never look untidy again!

7. This particular hack is easy on the eye. Invest in a cake stand, and place things you use frequently, such as oil, salt and pepper, on it. This frees up counter space in a visually interesting and unique way.

9. And do the same with your sink! Find a chopping board that is slightly longer than your sink and plae it over the top to create additional workspace. I first saw this hack in a video about someone's camper van kitchen, and was struck by how simple but how clever it was.

10. Invest in a rolling cart. This is a great way of creating additional surface space without having to commit to losing floorspace in the process. If your kitchen is really crowded one night, you can even wheel this cart out of the room until things have calmed down.

15. My last space-saving idea is one that I am particularly fond of, as it's clever and also looks incredibly interesting. Fix some pegboards to your kitchen walls, and hang utensils, memos, small storage baskets and anything else you can think of from there. You might already know that you can purchase these peg boards from Ikea, but they're also available from plenty of stores on eBay.
